HONEY, NATURE?S GIFT
??Ever wondered how something so sweet could be so useful? Yes, I have too. Honey is one natural medicine no one could hesitate to take. Did you know that honey lasts for an unbelievably long time? An explorer once came across a 2000 year old jar of honey in an ancient Egyptian tomb, he thought it tasted great!
Not only does honey have medicinal values and general health benefits, it also has other uses which we would find out in this article. How could something so free be of such great importance. This is why I see honey as a gift from Nature to us.
Brief History Of Honey
You probably always thought that bees produced honey. On the contrary, honey is produced when foraging bees collect nectar. After sucking nectar into their stomach, enzymes and proteins from the bees? hypo pharyngeal glands are added to the nectar and helps in breaking it down. The bees then regurgitate and transfer the nectar to the hive bees which help in ingesting the regurgitated nectar and then regurgitating it again. After about 20 minutes group work of bees ingesting and regurgitating while removing water and adding essentials, the product finally reaches the honeycomb for proper storage. Here, the bees use the large amount of heat produced from them to regulate the temperature of the forming honey to about 35 degrees Celsius. The process continues until almost all the water is evaporated from the honey. The bees then cap the cells with wax to seal the honey. Honey is also produced from a number of wasp species found in the southern and central America. Pheew! Not so brief after all.
Let?s see how nature has gifted us;
